Introduction Welcome to a world of Theoretical Existential Crisis's. In this series of topics, we will explore different theories of existence as we know it, explore far out astronomy topics rarely touched upon and other related subjects of the sort (Link to the other parts of this series will be below the article. This is the first article in this series and it will dive into a theory that could make you technically importal, or atleast, your mind. Basic Premise of Quantum Immortality To understand this theory we must first understand Schrödinger's cat. Schrödinger's cat is a thought experiment in quantum mechanics proposed by Austrian physicist Erwin Schrödinger in 1935. The scenario involves placing a cat in a sealed box with a radioactive atom, a Geiger counter, a vial of poison, and a hammer. If the Geiger counter detects radiation, the hammer is released, breaking the vial and killing the cat. However, due to the principles of quantum superposition, until the box is opened and observed, the cat exists in a state of being both alive and dead simultaneously. The experiment illustrates the concept of superposition and the challenges in reconciling quantum mechanics with classical intuition, highlighting the peculiar nature of particles that can exist in multiple states until measured. Further Discussion As of Today's World's data tells us, humans have been on Earth for around 300,000 years. With Quantum Immortality, could it be true that in a different dimension that we transfer to, that human live up to that long? Or even have been around longer than that; such as a universe where humans live up to 5 million years old and have been around for 5 or even 50 million years. Could there be a reality we swift to, where humans are immortal and never die, and that is our final destination? Or what if there is a reality where humans have been around for an infinite amount of time and are infinite in age? Author's Commentary
It's funny really, before I knew of this theory actually being referenced to the general populace, I had thoughts of something like this being a thing that happens. I thought that, if I had fallen into the rocks off the broken down Causeway Bridge in Lake Pontchartrain or had that 12 foot Alligator I caught came up and snatched me when I was five, that I actually shifted into the current reality that I am in and that in the original timeline I was killed. Or when I first started driving I wondered what would happen if a bridge I was on collapsed and my car & I fell into the water. Did it actually happen in my previous reality and was I shifted to a reality where it did not occur? I also had thoughts on whether if I or someone else dies of old age, is that only in this reality; and there is a reality to where the maximum life span keeps increasing again and again as we keep shifting realities? The thought puzzles me and I guess I won't have my answer till it is confirmed false.
