Communication Skills -Becoming a leader isn’t that hard, being an effective leader is a different story. One of the most effective leadership skills to have is communication. Communication is key to getting across what needs to get done and how to get it done. If the team members do not know the goal(s) or objective(s) than the leader has failed, and a colossal part of this failure is lack of communication.
Idealism -The most successful leaders are idealist, visionaries, one’s who can see the future if they take actions to effect it. What is the point of assembling a team if you’re going to be running in the same spot all day? With great ideas a leader can set goals for their team to meet.
Knowledgeable -A great leader is knowledgeable about the subject(s) in which they go for; if not other things. Knowing where thou art going is important and constantly learning about it is key to success. Like the old saying goes, Knowledge is Power.
Trustworthy -A leader must be trustworthy in order for their team to listen and take action on the leaders demands or directions.
Resilience -Even when times get tough, leaders must be willing and able to go the extra-mile in order to make the team-effort successful
Selflessness -A good leader must be able to put other’s needs over their own. Notice I said needs not wants, there is a big different
Team-oriented -The Leader must be aware that all the team's needs are meet so that the mission can be achieved. The leader needs to know that they cannot complete the task alone and that the team is important and needs to be treated as such.
Builds other leaders not followers -This final skill may be the most obscure but the most important at the same time. Average leaders build a following, great leaders build followers into leaders. A leader must be willing to teach their followers what the leader knows in order to make the team more efficient and to build an even bigger following. A smith mentors a upcoming smith, a archer mentors archers and a leader mentors leaders, a circle of life; sort of. This final skill is one of the most important skills a leader must master in order to become a great leader.
